Hailey Clauson 2023: Dominican Republic
Hailey Clauson was photographed by James Macari in the Dominican Republic for the 2023 SI Swimsuit Issue along with fellow models Katie Austin, Camille Kostek, Lauren Chan, Brooks Nader and Madisin Rian.
The Southern California native began modeling at 13 years old and appeared in Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind” music video in 2009. Clauson landed on the SI Swimsuit cover in 2016, one year after her first issue appearance. In 2023, Clauson became co-owner and creative director of Margaux Agency, the Los Angeles–based boutique modeling agency that also represents her as a model. She hopes to improve the way that the industry treats young models and encourage women to take control of their own careers.
Cap Cana is a tropical oasis located in the Punta Cana area of the Dominican Republic. The exclusive private community is renowned for both its luxurious service and non-stop activity. It boasts white sand beaches, seaside cliffs and a variety of native wildlife. The Dominican Republic is also home to Sports Illustrated Resorts Marina & Villas Cap Cana, an all-inclusive luxury resort that is an ideal spot for adventurous guests who are looking for an action-packed getaway. Thus, the location was an easy choice for the 2023 SI Swimsuit Issue.

The SI Swimsuit team decided to leverage the eager anticipation around this summer’s forthcoming Greta Gerwig-directed Barbie film, so the styling for Clauson’s shoot embraced full-on Barbiecore. The swimsuits were sexy and playful while exuding tons of powerful feminine energy. Think lots of hot pink, bold patterns and strong silhouettes suitable for the iconic doll herself.
